If I can do it, so can you!
Hi I’m Sami. I got an overall IELTS band 8.0. Listening – 8.5, Academic Reading – 8.0, Writing – 7.5, Speaking – 8.0. I know everyone is really busy, so I have tried to make it as concise as possible. I know it is easy to say after the fact, however, IELTS was a rather pleasant experience.
IELTS Speaking test
For the IELTS speaking test, the examiner turned out to be an old gentleman who listened patiently to whatever i had to say. I did not practice anything for the IELTS speaking test. I know you can find several free speaking practice tests online, however, I somehow felt confident and didnt quite prepare anything. The topic given to me was “The Furniture you have at your home”. I didn’t give him details on what material the furniture was made of or anything since the test was just to assess your spoken English. The test went on for 10mins and i was asked to leave.
IELTS Listening test
I started my listening test. One very important thing to be remembered while doing the listening test is to intently listen to the sound clip and write all your answers in full form. Do not use short forms for months or any other words (eg: do not write Dec 21, please write December 21st). I did quite well as I had done several free listening practice tests online.
IELTS Reading Test
For the IELTS reading test I found it a bit difficult since i took the academic module. In this section, as you’d know, we have 3 passages altogether. The second passage is given and you are asked to match the passage number with appropriate headings. This is something which you have to concentrate on. One word of caution: please make sure you do several IELTS reading practice tests before you go for the test. You are supposed to match the MOST appropriate heading.
IELTS Writing Test
IELTS Writing is an important section since it depends on your style and how well you are able to articulate your thoughts and how effectively you justify your opinion. It was here that I applied the strategies I learned at TargetIELTS and simply did as I was told. Luckily, all the writing practice tests came in handy and I finally came out blazing!
